Julkaisuvuosi on tässä hieman venyvä käsite, sillä esimerkiksi Guns N’ Rosesin Paradise City ja Sweet Child o’ Mine ovat oikeasti ilmestyneet jo vuonna 1987 Appetite for Destruction -albumilla. Ja A-han Take on Me julkaistiin jo 1984. Mutta ei takerruta näihin liiaksi, sillä pläjäys on kaikkiaan erittäin kiinnostava. Kukapa olisi uskonut, että vuoden 1993 isoimman striimihitin on tehnyt Ice Cube? Se ei taas yllätys, että valkoinen miesartisti pärjää, vaikka hänen uransa ei muuten kiinnostaisi ketään (Vance Joy).
Kolmas mielenkiintoinen huomio on, että lopulta aika harva näistä kappaleista on itse asiassa ollut listaykkösenä Yhdysvaltojen Hot 100 -listalla tai Britannian singlelistalla. Huippuna tässä kategoriassa Arctic Monkeysin 505, jonka korkein noteeraus on brittilistan 73. tila.
